phenomenon, which they could not explain or identify. Many were sorry that they did not have
a camera at hand.
This guide gives some sensible advice on how to react, what to note, what to pay attention to
if this happens to you. It helps you to report your experience as accurately as possible,
so that the chances of identification and analysis of your sighting are increased.
Unusual sightings are not always taken seriously, and as a consequence, many witnesses
do not report their sightings at all. Our goal os to pay attention to your report.
Tips:
- Call your friends or people arund you so that they can also observe what you see.
A report from several witnesses has unquestionable advantages when it comes to
evaluating it and getting as much information as possible about the reported event.
- Use your camera, your camcorder, your binoculars. Capture images of the phenomenon that you observe
using all the possibilities at hand, try to hold the camera or camcorder steadily, do not use
the flash (it creates a white shading hiding distant objects) or the autofocus (it distorts
the image of the phenomenon). If possible, focus manually. Then, have some patience, do not get
photographic films developped hastily, it is necessary to refine the development according
to the atmospheric conditions and to make multiple first generation copies in order
to carry out a study of the images and avoid losses.
- Locate the observed phenomenon using surrounding trees, poles, houses etc. By calculation, it
will be possible to calculate the possible distances, speed range, height, etc. Measure the
angular heights and apparent size by comparing it with the size of youtr thumb at arm length.
Again, this will help estimates of the size of the phenomenon.
- In the event of a very close observation, if possible, keep a 50 meters safety distance.
Any unusual or unknown phenomenon may be dangerous. If physical ground or vegetation traces
result from the phenomenon, do not enter the traces zone, so that you and the traces stay
uncontaminated and can be investigated scientifically.
- Do not mention your sighting around: the location must be preserved. Contact a private
investigator and check if he/she can guarantee a serious investigation.
- Start a written report as fast as possible, do not forget any detail, even seemingly unimportant.
Draw the colors of the phenomenon, if there are several witnesses, have every witness to do so independently.
Do not forget the exact location where you stood, the date, time, duration. Describe the
visibility. Was the sky cloudy? Was there fog, smog? Try to locate the Moon and
the sector of the sky the phenomenon evolved / moved. What was its path like?
DEscribe any light(s), color(s), noises, noise sources, and any other phenomena
accompanying the main phenomenon: the possible disturbances on the environment or
(and) on the witness(es).

Au-delà d'une observation non expliquée, quelle est la différence entre la méprise et le canular ?
- La méprise concerne une mauvaise reconnaissance d'un phénomène ou objet connu. C'est une situation fréquente à laquelle la grande majorité des personnes peuvent être confrontées. Il n'y a pas de honte à être victime d'une méprise.
- Le canular est l'œuvre d'un ou plusieurs individu(s) qui ont, de manière préméditée, monté de toutes pièces une supercherie dans un but malhonnête et condamnable.
Ces cas sont peu fréquents fort heureusement.
Comment sait-on que l'on s'est trompé ?
Après avoir cherché à comprendre en établissant, entre autre, des comparaisons avec un catalogue d'explications conventionnelles, nous argumenterons notre conclusion et vous fournissant d'autres exemples, si nous en disposons, sur différents supports (film, photo...). L'enquête que nous mènerons démontrera peut-être aussi qu'il s'agit d'un canular. Nous ferons tout notre possible pour vous exposer notre point de vue.
